Adire: Nigerian Tie-Dye Techniques
Adire is the Yoruba tradition of resist-dyeing cloth, usually in indigo, by folding, stitching, or binding fabric so parts of it resist the dye and hold their original color. In this workshop, participants learned the folding and binding techniques firsthand, then dyed their own cloth and watched the pattern reveal itself as it dried.
Freshly dyed bundles, still bound.
A fold ready for the dye bath.
Everyone left with a piece of their own.
