John Kwame Eduafo

John Kwame Eduafo paints scenes out of Ghanaian life: family groupings, village scenes, ordinary faces rendered in a way that leans on color and mood more than strict likeness.

Much of that looser, more painterly work he signs as Citizen Kwame, a second name for a second register, while pieces like Three Sisters and Golden Profile carry his own. Either way, the subject stays close to home: people he knows, or people who could be.

Bridging Our Cultures ran from July 13th until the 14th of August, with an opening reception on Sunday, July 12th. John Kwame paints scenes out of Ghanaian life, showing alongside Nigerian artist Jasmine Oguns, who works in masks, terracotta, and bronze. Two countries, two mediums, the same instinct: look back at where you're from, and put it on a wall.
